About Us
The Oregon Network for Community Based Serious Illness Support (ONSIS) is an initiative of The Peaceful Presence Project, a 501c(3) not-for-profit organization in Bend, Oregon. The work and vision of The Peaceful Presence Project is guided by the Compassionate Communities Model of Care. This public health approach to palliative care works to identify support beyond health and social services—empowering community members to be active participants in caring for one another during times of illness, loss and grief.
The Oregon Network for Community-Based Serious Illness Support will ensure that more compassionate care is accessible to individuals across the state and that it is cohesive and person-centered. Families and caregivers will be better supported and communities will be aware of critical resources.
Our vision is for Oregon to serve as a national model in actively adopting the Compassionate Community framework, transforming how we respond to and support those facing serious and terminal illness.
This community-based network is the first step towards more equitable care across Oregon.

The Peaceful Presence Project was founded in 2019 with a mission to reimagine the way communities talk about, plan for and experience serious illness through the end of life and grief. With diverse backgrounds in family caregiving, nursing, and community development, our team envisions an Oregon where every person feels supported by their local community in times of illness, loss and grief.
